Xhekaj was dealing with an upper body injury and his health was being reassessed on a daily basis until now.
The imposing hockey player appeared to injure his left shoulder when he was the victim of a hard hit by Ivan Barbashev during the second period of a 6-5 loss for the Habs against the Vegas Golden Knights last month.
The 22-year-old scored one goal and collected two assists in 17 games this season with CH, in addition to receiving an impressive total of 47 penalty minutes. As of Monday morning, Xhekaj is fourth in the NHL in penalty minutes this season, behind Liam O’Brien (64), Brady Tkachuk (50) and Tanner Jeannot (48).
Xhekaj, who was never drafted in the NHL, has six goals and 10 assists in 68 career NHL games, all with the Bleu-blanc-rouge.
