(Quebec) Liberal MP Jennifer Maccarone made her mea culpa on Wednesday regarding a message in which she appeared to support the controversial adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Amira Elghawaby.
In a now-deleted micro-message, MP Maccarone said that the Legault government lacked humanity in asking for the resignation of Mr.me Elghawaby, who was widely criticized by parties in Quebec for writing that Quebecers were driven by anti-Muslim sentiment.
In a press briefing with his chef Marc Tanguay, Wednesday morning, Mme Maccarone said she wrote her message too quickly, without having all the information.
“I acted too quickly, too soon, without having complete information. That’s why I apologized to the people. […] I made a mistake, and for this I am deeply disappointed in myself,” she said.
“It was I who should have acted, and perhaps spoken more with my colleagues to ensure that the position I took was the position of the party,” she continued.
