Apple Self-Service Repair will be available starting in 2025 in Canada

Repairing your iPhone or MacBook yourself will soon be possible, as Apple plans to include Canada in its self-service repair program starting next year.

The Californian technology giant announced that this program, first launched in 2022 in the United States, will arrive in Canada in 2025, probably during the first months of the year.

The program provides users who want to repair their devices with access to Apple’s original parts, tools and repair manuals.

More than 40 products are covered by this program, including the most recent iPhone and MacBook models. The range extends up to the iPhone 12.

Interested users will need to pay for all parts and rent tools needed to make repairs, but will have free access to manuals and diagnostic software that will help them resolve their issues.

When Canada enters the program next year, it will become 34e countries where self-service repair will be offered by Apple.

This announcement from the Apple brand comes as the federal government continues to propose changes to the Copyright Act so that consumers can repair their products more easily, and at a lower cost.

The bill containing these changes was adopted last year by the House of Commons, but it is still being evaluated in the Senate.
