The captain of the XV of France Antoine Dupont, injured Thursday evening, September 21, during the Blues’ match against Namibia, underwent surgery on Friday September 22 around 11 p.m. at the Purpan University Hospital in Toulouse, the Sports Department learned from Radio France to the French Rugby Federation.

The Federation specifies that “in a few days” the scrum half “will be able to return to the French team in a process of gradual sporting resumption and under medical supervision”.

Thursday evening, during this Rugby World Cup match, Antoine Dupont came off in the 46th minute after being violently hit on the head by Namibian captain Johan Deysel. On Friday morning, the Federation confirmed that he suffered a maxillo-zygomatic fracture.

Antoine Dupont arrived in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) on Friday afternoon after a trip from Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), by car with his partner. Upon his arrival at the hospital, the player underwent additional examinations, including a 3D scanner and an MRI. He then consulted a surgeon specializing in maxillofacial trauma.

At this stage and after this operation, we still do not know the precise duration of the rugby player’s unavailability. The staff of the XV of France, as indicated on Friday, will make a decision by the end of the weekend or Monday September 25 in the morning, on a possible return, more or less rapid, of Antoine Dupont.
