Will French cinema find an evening that highlights it? While the two previous editions, led by Florence Foresti in the midst of the Polanski controversy and Marina Foïs the year of the pandemic and the closing of cinemas, have been extremely decried, Antoine de Caunes has his work cut out to bring viewers back. .
Interviewed by the newspaper The Parisian during a press conference, when the trailer for the 2022 edition of the Césars was unveiled – highlighting some of the films in competition such as BAC North, Aline Where Lost Illusions – Antoine de Caunes spoke frankly about the next ceremony. “I want to put the cinema back at the heart of the evening. I want us to celebrate cinema both as an art and as entertainment. I want there to be emotion, laughter… The ideal cocktail that I imagine at the Caesars“, he confided in what looks like a little scratch when the 7th Art has been anything but highlighted in recent years.
But Antoine de Caunes sympathized with the one who preceded him. “I would not have liked to be in Marina’s place (…) There were no films, no spectators, it was freezing…“, he underlines. The evening had been a three-hour platform for all those who wanted to attack the government and the Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot, who had had a very bad time. During the previous edition, the actress Corinne Masiero had also aroused a flood of criticism against her because of her happening during which she found herself naked, falsely bloodied, on stage. Again, Antoine de Caunes is not very tender and warns that it will not be the kind of house this year. “If we can avoid this register, we will avoid (…) We must avoid free provocation, the thing that only pleases its author“, he says.
