Economic issues are at the heart of the French, in a budgetary context of immense debt. Bruno Le Maire, tenant of Bercy since 2017, handed over the keys to his ministry on Sunday, September 22, to Antoine Armand.
After more than 7 years as captain, Bruno Le Maire is leaving Bercy. He is handing over the keys to the Ministry of Economy to Antoine Armand, 33 years old. “You will not find in a drawer of my office some miracle recipe to restore our public accounts”warned the now former Minister of Economy. The idea of increasing taxes has been gaining ground within the government in recent days because the public accounts are in the red. The deficit could reach 6.2% of GDP next year.
On Sunday, September 22, the new Minister of the Economy was clear in an interview with the JDD. “In the budgetary context, automatically excluding certain exceptional and targeted levies would not be responsible”he said. One of his priorities will be the budget vote, which will happen quickly. Indeed, the government will have to present the budget on October 9 to the National Assembly. This is one of the riskiest issues for the new government team.
