Patients suffering from angina or cystitis will now be able to obtain their antibiotics in pharmacies with a simple test, without going to the doctor. A long-awaited measure, applied from Wednesday June 19.

The application of the measure was expected in all pharmacies in France. And perhaps more in rural areas. In an Alsatian village, a pharmacist will be able to dispense certain antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription, starting this Wednesday, June 19. Among these, “antibiotics specific to symptoms suggestive of angina and (…) cystitis”specifies Alexandra Gaertner, of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Unions of France.

Medicines that the pharmacist can sell after carrying out a simple test. “If this test is positive and it shows the presence of bacteria”Alexandra Gaertner indicates that she will then be able to “deliver an antibiotic”. A device that aims to be simple and quick, to facilitate access to care for patients who are more convinced by the measure.
