Attacks against people of Jewish faith have almost tripled since the beginning of the year, with an attack taking place in front of a synagogue on Saturday, August 24.
Jewish places of worship were already under high surveillance, their security will go up another notch this Saturday, August 24. For the authorities, there is no doubt, this terrorist act in front of a synagogue was indeed an anti-Semitic attack. Another shock for the Jewish community. Last May, another synagogue in Rouen was already hit by a violent fire, without causing any injuries. Books and the platform burned: an Algerian national in an irregular situation had set fire to it, before being shot dead by the police.
Assaults, death threats or even swastikas: Gabriel Attal, on a trip to La Grande-Motte, once again denounces a worrying increase in these anti-Semitic acts. 887 incidents were recorded in the first half of 2024, compared to 304 in 2023 at the same time. Anti-Semitic acts are more numerous and reaching a high level of seriousness.
