In Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales), Romain Grau, LREM deputy for the department, was attacked by anti-vaccination pass demonstrators on Saturday January 22.
Many of them showed their dissatisfaction on Saturday January 22 in Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales). Several demonstrators opposed to the vaccine pass attacked the LREM deputy, Romain Grau, in front of his office. The tension quickly rose, a person threatened him: “We will kill you”. The chosen one was also slapped. A neighbor came to his aid, but blows were then exchanged. While trying to take refuge with this neighbour, the deputy was punched in the face and people spat on him.
Sunday January 23, Romain Grau is still stunned by what he has experienced. “We feel very weak compared to a crowd that is barbaric, a horde that wants to do battle, that wanted to lynch us, let’s be very clear”, he complains. The elected official lodged a complaint and said he was frequently targeted by intimidation. The violence is proving to be more and more numerous with 250 cases of death threats since July and the start of the protest against the health pass. Death threats against an elected official or violence against an elected official in a meeting are punishable by five years’ imprisonment and a fine of 75,000 euros. It is now the counter-terrorism sub-directorate of the judicial police which coordinates these investigations.
