A major absence for the XV of France. Anthony Jelonch is the victim of a cruciate ligament rupture, Stade Toulouse announced on Monday January 22. An injury which marks his withdrawal from the Six Nations Tournament with the French team. Last year, the international number 8 (27 years old, 29 caps) had already been sidelined with a serious left knee injury.
Hit against Bath in the Champions Cup (31-19 victory), the third center line from Stade Toulousain had to leave his teammates in the 24th minute. “He felt his right knee twist, declared his manager Ugo Mola after the meeting. We will wait for the exams but we preferred not to take any risks. I dare to hope that it won’t go further than a harmless feeling.”
Emmanuel Meafou also forfeits
The French Rugby Federation has announced that Alexandre Roumat, the other third center line at Stade Toulouse, will replace him in the squad. The 26-year-old has no cap with the XV of France. For his part Emmanuel Meafou, second row of Toulouse, was declared “package” by the FFR, without giving more details, either on the injury or on the duration of the unavailability. He had also been hitu knee against Bath on Sunday.
Their absences with the XV tricolor are added to that of Antoine Dupont, who is skipping the Tournament to devote himself to rugby sevens in the hope of competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Thibaud Flament is also missing, forfeiting the opening match against Ireland on 2 February due to a foot injury. Romain Ntamack has still not recovered from his rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee which forced him to give up the Rugby World Cup.
