Author, composer, performer, accordionist, his fame was made with his hit “Marie La Dondaine” in 2007: Anthony Chaplain, from the Côtes d’Armor between Lamballe and Pléneuf-Val-André, celebrates 20 years of career. A strange journey for the one who was only a young tiler who made music: first part of Johnny Hallyday, artist contract with Sony, shared stage with Tri Yann in front of 20,000 people in Bobital, Anthony also wrote “The choice of the crazy” that Michel Sardou had sung in 2017. The Costarmorican bounces back with a new self-produced album of Celtic rock variety songs, entitled “The return” released in October 2022 by Coop Breizh.

It is in the small port of Danouët (22) near Val-André, where Anthony Chaplain has always liked to go for walks, that the clip for his new song “Le Retour de la dondaine” was shot, but also in Dinard (35) and Dinan (22). 15 years ago, his character of “Maridon la Dondaine” told the story of a woman in love with a priest and who entered the convent of Rennes. We find the costarmorican on her new opus in “Le retour de la dondaine”, rather in bars and concert halls than in a cloister!

Anthony’s musical choice: Bénabar
The lyrics of Anthony Chaplain’s new album speak of love, separation, youth and regrets. An album which borrows from two singers that the Costaarmorican likes: Brassens launched by Patachou who had Anthony Chapalain make his first TV at the age of 19 with Pascal Sevran. And Bénabar whom he has already met 3 times in festivals, he likes his lyrics and his jazzy trumpet side. A light, funny and often festive spirit where the accordionist singer is surrounded by violin, guitar, bombarde and choirs recorded and mastered with the help of Philippe Ferec of Sonerien Du.

On Anthony Chaplain’s new album, there is also a song from a father to his child “Tout pour toi” which served as support for a new clip which will be released in a few days, produced with children from Sainte -Anne in the town where he lives in Andel (22). The one who joined in June 2022 “Les Glochos”, the humorous music group from Pontivy as a pianist and bassist, he stands out a little from his rock star image and it suits him well! Anthony Chaplain also rediscovers his youthful instrument, the drums he started at the age of 5!
