“I hate my fans. I hate being famous. I hate my job,” wrote the globetrotter to his ex-wife, Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, with whom he had a daughter and remained close despite their separation in 2016. “I am alone and I live in constant uncertainty, ”he added, still by text message, in the days preceding his death.

Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdainan unauthorized biography, was written by Charles Leerhsen, to whom we already owe several biographies as well as a book co-authored with Donald Trump in 1990.

Excerpts from this book, which will be published on October 11 by Simon & Schuster, were published on Tuesday morning by the New York Times, including certain other text messages exchanged by Bourdain with Asia Argento. The host of the show Parts Unknown and the actress lived a romantic relationship often depicted as troubled, notably in the documentary by Morgan Neville, Roadrunner (2021).

People close to Bourdain have already expressed their disagreement with the publication of this biography, including his brother, Christopher, who called the project “hurtful and defamatory”.
