Guadeloupe experienced another night marked by violence and looting, Saturday, November 20, while the curfew is in place on the entire island.
For residents, the night was once again eventful, with wild fires and looting in shops, while some protesters remain in the streets despite the curfew in effect from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. For some demonstrators, being “confined” at 6 pm because of their discontent only increases and rekindles tensions on the island. A qualified system “hallucinatory” by one of them, comparing the situation to that of the yellow vests. Actions against a background of social crisis that do not calm the situation.
In Pointe-à-Pitre, looting and acts of vandalism have led to the arrest of 12 individuals. A situation that followed a day of demonstrations, with the installation of roadblocks and barricades by demonstrators and opponents of the health pass. For residents, the situation is becoming complex both in terms of transport and security. “The situation is a little catastrophic, but we have no choice”, declares a resident, who seems fatalistic in the face of the situation. Members of the RAID and GIGN should arrive in order to be firmer in the face of the demonstrators.
