Another flash strike at the Casino de Montréal

For a second consecutive day, the croupiers and dealers of the Casino de Montréal will hold a new walkout on Sunday, in front of their workplace, due to an impasse in the negotiations for the renewal of their collective agreement.

Like the day before, the walkout will begin at 4 p.m. and should end at 8 p.m. Monetary issues, schedules and the organization of work are among the subjects of litigation between the employer and the union.

“We need more openness from the employer during the mediation sessions which will take place from next Tuesday. With the actions today and yesterday, the dealers demonstrate their mobilization and their determination to reach a satisfactory agreement,” said CUPE union representative Jean-Pierre Proulx in a press release.

Despite everything, the Casino de Montréal will continue to welcome its customers, although with a more limited service, indicated Loto-Québec.

“During this period, operations at the gaming tables continue. Thus, the most popular games, such as blackjack, roulette and baccarat, will be offered, while the poker room will be closed. All other activities, such as restaurants, shows or slot machine games, will take place normally,” the state-owned company said in a statement.

Loto-Québec has also indicated that it is prepared to resume negotiations with the union.

The collective agreement for the 521 croupiers expired on March 31, 2020.
