Nearly 1,900 homes were without electricity in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on Saturday March 30 in the afternoon, after strong winds caused trees and branches to fall, Enedis reported. Of the 6,000 homes still without electricity in the morning, “two-thirds (…) were replenished in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes”, Enedis said. “There remain 1,900 customers to restore, mainly in Isère and the Rhône”continued the network manager which mobilized technicians for field repairs and “remote maneuvers” on the network “to resupply as quickly as possible the greatest number of homes”.
“More than 200 technicians from Enedis and partner companies are continuing repowering operations”according to the company, which recalls that the situation could still evolve depending on the winds.
Damage linked to falling trees
Falling trees on the tracks caused the interruption of the Grenoble-Chambéry rail link. A resumption of traffic is expected Sunday morning, according to the TER SNCF website of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Faced with the risk of falling trees, a campsite was also evacuated in Chamonix and around thirty people had to be relocated. Friday evening, 1,600 homes were without electricity after the passage of the Nelson depression in Rhône-Alpes, which caused a first peak with 6,000 households in the dark.
