The annual demonstration against police brutality ended in one arrest while around ten misdeeds such as graffiti and smashed bank windows were observed.
The demonstrators gathered around 5:30 p.m. near the Beaudry metro station, in the Village, where they first wandered around before crossing almost the entire city center, to the area around the Guy-Metro station. Concordia. Around 7 p.m., they entered the metro, putting an end to the demonstration.
A large police deployment accompanied the demonstrators throughout the event.
The Montreal City Police Department has reported at least one arrest for assault on one of its officers.
The police force also says it observed demonstrations throwing “smoke bombs and pyrotechnics” in addition to attacking the windows of what “appear to be financial institutions.”
The event was organized for the first time this year by the “Collectif March 15” which had recently announced that it had taken the lead in the event which has already turned into a riot several times in the past.
Since 1997, the annual demonstration against police brutality has been organized by the Collective opposed to police brutality (COBP).
