The announcement may seem surprising. Author of a very successful season in Leipzig and announced on the shelves of major teams, Christopher Nkunku finally extended his two-year contract with the German club on Thursday June 23. The French international is now linked with the fourth in the last Bundesliga until 2026.

In Germany for three years, Nkunku had maintained the vagueness on his future, at the beginning of June in a press conference, during a gathering of the France team. The Parisian titi had thus claimed that Paris Saint-Germain, who trained him, “remained [s]at home, [s]we heart club“. In the video announcing his extension, Leipzig rightly staged the French international in the French capital: “Hello from Paris! But don’t worry, I’m going back to Leipzig soon”he quipped.

This year, Nkunku has scored 35 goals and distilled 20 assists in all competitions. These statistics, breathtaking for a midfielder, earned him the title of best player in the Bundesliga. He won the German Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League with Leipzig. Next year, the flagship club of the Red Bull galaxy will compete in the Champions League for the fifth time in six years.

The 24-year-old discovered the Blues last March, and played in the four Nations League matches in June. With this extension, Christopher Nkunku has clarified his short-term future, with the next World Cup in Qatar in sight.
