“This war concerns us, because it is happening here in Europe, recalls Anne Hidalgo on France Bleu Gironde. Vladimir Putin also wants to weaken European democracy and democracy in our country”. The Socialist candidate supports the decision of the European Union and the United States adopted overnight to take economic sanctions against Russia : “I think it is very important to be united”.
But Anne Hidalgo goes further: “I’m in favor of supplying arms to Ukraine, so that they can defend themselves”. On Thursday evening, Ukraine declared general mobilization as Russian missiles hit the capital Kiev. While an Atlantic Alliance summit is to be held on Friday at 8 p.m., the military forces of NATO states have been placed on alert and some units will move to reinforce the eastern flank. France will accelerate deployment within the framework of NATO soldiers in Romaniaa country bordering Ukraine.
