Already cold due to the Paris City Hall’s reluctance to sell the Parc des Princes to the club, relations between Anne Hidalgo and Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to improve. The city councilor, invited on BFM TV and RMC on Tuesday July 25, defended Kylian Mbappé in his showdown with the Parisian club, which dismissed him from the professional group, which flew for a tour in Asia, after his refusal to extend his contract.
“I don’t understand what PSG are playing with Kylian Mbappé, said Anne Hidalgo. They have the best player in the world. They are ready not to play him, I admit that I do not understand anything”. At the heart of the conflict between the two parties, Kylian Mbappé’s contract which expires in the summer of 2024, and the player’s refusal to activate the clause which would extend his contract for an additional season. He was therefore excluded from PSG’s summer tour of Asia and is training with other players awaiting departure at the training center in Poissy. “Obviously Kylian is an extraordinary player and I would like to keep him in Paris.also assured the mayor of the capital. I believe it was also his wish to stay as long as possible in Paris. So the question is rather: what is PSG playing at?.
PSG wants to receive transfer compensation
Convinced that the player already has an agreement to sign in 2024 at Real Madrid, PSG want their star to extend his lease or be sold this summer. In a year, Mbappé will be able to leave freely, without the club receiving transfer compensation, which would represent a considerable shortfall for the champions of France, who recruited him for 180 million euros in 2017 and offered him a huge salary during his extension announced in May 2022.
Since Friday evening and the worsening of the crisis between PSG and the French striker, the Parisian club has started to receive expressions of interest for Kylian Mbappé, the Saudi club of Al-Hilal having even been authorized to negotiate with the captain of the Blues on the basis of a transfer of an amount of 300 million euros, according to the sports department of Radio France.
