Annamie Paul resigns and leaves the Green Party

(Ottawa) The leader of the Green Party Annamie Paul has officially resigned and returned her membership card.

Mme Paul said she sent a formal resignation letter to the Green Party, following her announcement in September of her intention to resign.

The leader of the Greens, the first black and Jewish woman to lead a major political party in Canada, said after the election that leading the party was the worst time of her life.

The Greens elected only two MPs in the September 20 election and Mme Paul did not win his riding of Toronto.

The party’s meager performance at the polls follows a period of internal wrangling and sniping against Mr.me Paul, who feels that the party has not done enough to support her.

The lawyer said it has been an “honor to work for the people of Canada” and that she looks forward to serving in new ways.
