The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reports having been called to the scene of the collision involving two vehicles around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, at kilometer 8.5 of the A25 South, near the Anjou interchange.

According to initial information from the police force, the driver of a tractor-trailer first took Highway 25, north, from Highway 40 East.

Then, for a still unclear reason, “he crossed the central reservation to collide with an SUV that was traveling south,” said agent Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the SQ.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital, but there is no fear for his life. The A25 South was partially closed to traffic to let investigators do their job and collect as many clues as possible.

Reconstitution agents were also requested on site. However, motorists can drive north.

Several hypotheses are being studied by the police, but it seems that alcohol, drugs and speeding have been excluded so far. “Is it a mechanical breakdown, distraction, fatigue? This is much more what is currently being studied, but we would not be talking about alcohol or impaired driving,” concluded Mr. Tremblay.
