The police officers of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) intervened around 3:35 a.m. They were called in connection with a possible drowning in the public swimming pool of Parc Roger-Rousseau, located at the intersection of boulevard Châteauneuf and from Randeau Ave.

“The officers had to jump into the water to rescue the victim, a 21-year-old man,” said spokesperson Mariane Allaire Morin. Resuscitation maneuvers were started. The scene is now protected, while the young man is in critical condition.

“We currently fear for his life,” added agent Allaire Morin.

An investigation is also underway into the circumstances surrounding this event.

This is the fourth drowning in a few days in Quebec. On Friday, a 14-year-old girl was found in a small artificial lake after a slip at the Super Aqua Club in Pointe-Calumet.

The same evening, a 28-year-old man drowned in a private lake on the way to 6e Row, in Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides.

Late Saturday afternoon, at Sablon beach in Montérégie, a 43-year-old man drowned in a shallow lake.

Almost 300 kilometers away, in Mauricie, a 49-year-old swimmer who was trying to cross the Batiscan River was lost to sight near Notre-Dame-de-Montauban.
