Pets soon at home in retirement homes. The government is in favor of establishing a right for nursing home residents to be accompanied by their pet. The State thus wants to facilitate the integration of domestic animals, especially dogs and cats, into nursing homes upon the arrival of their owners. A device which is part of the “aging well” bill which will be debated again by parliamentarians in mid-March.
A text soon under discussion
Currently, nursing homes are free to accept or refuse pets. The text will now be discussed by parliamentarians in a small committee on March 12, during a joint committee (CMP). If this step is conclusive, a vote will take place on March 19 in the Assembly, then in the Senate on March 27. A source of comfort for the elderly person, the four-legged companion can also be a point of reference in their new environment, which would facilitate the transition.
