Animal cruelty in Magog: he beats his dog he thought was too old

A Magog man was arrested for having asked an acquaintance to beat his dog to death because he was too old.

This appalling story of animal cruelty took place last Friday, near the intersection of Dollard and Saint-Jérôme streets, in Magog, in the Eastern Townships.

Around 8 p.m., a witness contacted 911 to report the incessant howling of a dog being mistreated by an individual.

Dispatched to the scene, the police found the Husky dog completely covered in blood on the property of its owner.

Members of the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) came to retrieve the dog, which was still alive, but had no choice but to euthanize it: the injuries that had been inflicted on it were too serious.

The police questioned the owner of the animal, who admitted to having asked one of his acquaintances to kill his dog, because it had become too old.

Following this surprising and incriminating statement, the police conducted a search of the individual’s home, where three cats were seized. They were taken care of by the SPA.

The 75-year-old man was arrested, before being released on summons.

He could face charges of animal cruelty, neglect and aiding and abetting after the fact.

During the search carried out at the septuagenarian’s home, the police also found around sixty methamphetamine tablets and contraband cigarettes.

The police officers of the Memphremagog Police Board are still looking for the man who savagely beat the poor animal.

This is an individual who would be between 60 and 70 years old, paunchy, with a beard of a few days and a dark mustache. He is said to be about 1.70 meters (5 ft 7 in) tall.
