The host, now 80 years old, returns this week to these years of splendor, in a documentary broadcast on France 3. He explains how every week, he received French and international stars in this program. Sometimes with failures.
“I will never forget your inelegance“
Indeed, if he is still terrified today by the very embarrassing sequence between Serge Gainsbourg and Whitney Houston, which took place on his set, Michel Drucker also left a bad impression on another great diva. And this is Barbra Streisand.
The latter had come to visit her in the company of Michel Legrand, in 1984. And she did not appreciate that Michel Drucker asked her to improvise a few notes of the song “What are you doing the rest of your life”with the composer seated at the piano.

At the time, “She left drunk with rage. I understand it since it was not planned at all”, says Michel Drucker, who realizes his clumsiness, a few hours later at Maxim’s, where they are both invited to a party organized by Pierre Cardin. Michel Drucker explains that the star of “funny girl” the “glare shot” for the whole evening before coming to tell her, very annoyed “i will never forget your inelegance“.
This was followed by a real cold shower for Michel Drucker who the next day discovered incriminating articles against him in the regional press. As he explains, he took it “mouth full”, is in“falls down” by discovering the killer words of the tandem. Barbra Streisand for her part assured: “My worst memory is the Champs-Élysées”. And Michel Legrand accused: “Drucker trapped her in the Champs-Élysées”.
“I had it down my throat for years”
A low blow that Michel Drucker never digested, since he says that for many years, he could no longer invite Michel Legrand on his sofa. he couldn’t, and above all “he didn’t want to be so fake ass”. If he was kind enough to receive Michel Legrand before his death, it was “to please Macha Méril”, he said, “the woman of his life, because Michel Legrand is a great talent”. And to admit, however: “But that, I had it in the throat for years”.
