The leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec Dominique Anglade wonders about a “very high” jump in the budget of the National Assembly that her political party has nevertheless approved.
Mme Anglade said Tuesday that questions remain about a significant increase in the National Assembly’s spending budget, which will rise by 25 million, or 17%, next year.
“The amount is very high, contains a lot of elements in relation to the maintenance of assets, in relation to security, then I think it is important that these elements are considered, she declared during the interview. a press briefing. But, moreover, there are still several questions that arise, and we are waiting for the credits to ask all of these questions. »
The Office of the National Assembly (BAN) adopted a budget of 167.5 million for the 2022-2023 financial year, up from that of 142.6 million the previous year.
In February, representatives of the Coalition avenir Québec, the Liberal Party, Québec solidaire and the Parti québécois voted in favor of this resolution of the BAN, the equivalent of the board of directors of the parliamentary institution.
Despite this, M.me Anglade said the public study of appropriations, which will take place over the next few weeks, will be an opportunity to find out why the expenses of the National Assembly will increase next year almost three times faster than those of the Ministry of Health, up 6.3% in 2022-2023.
“It’s growing at a significant speed compared to the rest of the other budgets,” she said. So that’s why I say it’s a high amount. »
