The Prime Minister and several members of the government unveiled a series of new measures to respond to the farmers’ movement during a press conference on Thursday February 1.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and several members of the government took turns Thursday, February 1 during a press conference lasting almost an hour, in order to unveil numerous announcements to respond to the anger of farmers. Among them, there is the inclusion of food sovereignty in the law. Several announcements have also been made around mass distribution. Gabriel Attal notably promised control of all supermarket chains in the coming days.

Emphasis on renewing generations of farmers

150 million will be put on the table for breeders, the government also promises, in order to provide fiscal and social support to this sector. Measures to better protect against unfair competition were also announced. Another measure revealed: fruits and vegetables treated with certain pesticides banned in France, but authorized in Europe, can no longer be imported. The government has placed emphasis on the renewal of generations of farmers, with several measures, including raising the exemption thresholds on agricultural inheritances.
