The G20 ended in India. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky protested after the final statement which did not explicitly condemn the Russian invasion.
It’s a success for Moscow, a failure for kyiv. On the war in Ukraine, the consensus found at the G20 in India has a bitter taste for Ukrainians. The press release states: “Regarding the war in Ukraine, within the framework of the UN charter, all states must refrain from resorting to the threat or use of force to seek territorial gains at the expense of territorial integrity”. There is no explicit mention of Russian aggression against Ukraine, a change of direction from last year.
Putin may come to Brazil next year
The shift is denounced by kyiv. The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry repeats the final statement in terms that they find more appropriate. On the ground, Ukraine confirms having slowed down its counter-offensive. Friday September 8, the Ukrainian president pointed out the slowness in the delivery of weapons to his country. The other negative signal is Lula’s invitation to go to Brazil next year without risk of being arrested.
