The street does not take off after the passage in force of the pension reform. According to Gérald Darmanin, more than 1,200 undeclared demonstrations have taken place across the country since 49-3.

The Place de la République (Paris) is filled with French people who say “no” to the pension reform, Tuesday evening March 21. Thousands of French people took to the streets to oppose the government’s bill, as is the case in Le Mans (Sarthe) where a new gathering of demonstrators determined to be heard took place. “We still know that we will have to show our fangs in the sense that we have been walking gently for two months, that we are counting on the union leaders to discuss with the government, that they have closed doors”testifies one of them.

“No to disorder and mess”

Calm gatherings for the time being but the government says it fears new overflows. Monday evening, 287 people were arrested during undeclared demonstrations. Tuesday afternoon, Gérald Darmanin came to support the injured police officers and recalled that undeclared demonstrations are illegal. “Yes to the freedom to demonstrate and the police and the gendarmes have demonstrated it, are there to supervise those who want to demonstrate against the government and this will be the case on Thursday. No to disorder, to mess and I want to say it to those who want to create chaos”, said the Minister of the Interior. On Thursday, 12,000 police officers will oversee the rallies.
