Andre De Grasse wins the 100 meters at the East Coast Relays

(Gainesville) Canadian Andre De Grasse edged out Marcell Jabobs, the reigning Olympic champion, to win the men’s 100 meters at the East Coast Relays on Saturday.

The 29-year-old from Toronto posted a time of 10,103 seconds, slightly better than Jacobs’ 10,106 seconds on the University of Florida track.

Jacobs, an American who represents the colors of Italy, beat the American Trayvon Bromell, who took third place in a time of 10,135 seconds.

De Grasse, Jacobs and Bromell, who all train together in Florida, were paired together in the first of 15 waves.

De Grasse, however, failed to reach the Olympic qualification threshold, set at 10 seconds. The qualification period started on the 1ster July 2023 and it ends on June 30.

The Canadian had the fastest time in the 200 meters on Friday. De Grasse, the reigning Olympic champion in the distance, crossed the finish line in 20.11 seconds.

The East Coast Relays feature some of the best international athletes as they prepare for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
