Biologists are protesting against the reduction in fees for their services starting Friday, September 20. Many analysis laboratories closed their doors in the morning.

The curtain is down, This Friday, September 20 in Lille (North), in front of a medical analysis laboratory. The situation is similar throughout France. For four days, private laboratories are on strike. They are protesting against the drop in prices for examination procedures by almost 10%, imposed by Health Insurance. This is the third reduction in two years.

Biologists warn: some laboratories may have to reduce their opening hours. What I fear isis that it changes this situation, because economically, there are laboratories that will no longer have this availability (…) to welcome the patient every day of the week”announces François Blanchecotte, the national president of the biologists’ union.

According to the Health Insurance, the increase in screenings and chronic diseases has caused spending to explode. Lowering rates would allow for savings of 360 million euros. If the dialogue does not succeed, biologists are considering a new strike by private analysis laboratories for 15 consecutive days at the end of December.
