Until Wednesday, November 16 inclusive, it will be practically impossible to take a blood test or a sample. The laboratories are closing their doors, to protest against the 250 million euros in savings demanded by the government.

Monday, November 14, 95% of medical analysis laboratories close their doors for a period of at least three days. Only the most urgent cases are taken care of. For people who have to take a blood test or a PCR test, it will be necessary to wait for the reopening of the establishments. “I have to have surgery on Wednesday morning so I absolutely need a PCR test (…) and suddenly because of their strike, I will postpone my operation which is urgent”laments a patient.

The biologists have decided to go on strike in order to show their opposition to the financial effort demanded by the government, which wishes to save 250 million euros per year. Thus, laboratories will earn less money on each analysis. “Automatically, it will limit our ability to invest, it will limit our ability to meet patient expectations”, laments medical biologist Jean-Marc Breton. To justify this financial effort, the government highlights the record turnover achieved during the Covid-19. The Minister of Health reacted by explaining that this strike is “inadmissible”.
