This is one of the most anticipated events of the start of the school year: the 48th edition of the American film festival in Deauville promises a great show. The program has just been released, enough to make the mouths of moviegoers water. In total, 13 films will be in competition for this new edition which will give pride of place to first-time directors, with eight first films, reports AFP. For the opening night, the organizers will bet on Elizabeth Banks and Sigourney Weaver, (mother of Charlotte Simpson), who will be on the bill of CallJane, directed by Phyllis Nagy (screenwriter of the film “Carol”, 2015).
Among the other films in competition, it will be necessary to count on war pony of Gina Gammell and Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley. Presented out of competition but retained in the Official Selection of the last Cannes Film Festival, this film, which tells the intertwined destinies of two boys living on an Amerindian reserve, had won the Camera d’or (best first film).
Beautiful people expected
Also note the presence of The Silent Twins by the Polish Agnieszka Smoczynska. This feature film was also presented in a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by real events, it tells the story of twins who refused to communicate with the outside world.
Among the other highlights to be expected for this festival: the screening of the highly anticipated Blonde haira Netflix production carried by director Andrew Dominik (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford“, 2007), which traces the tragic fate of Marilyn Monroe with Ana de Armas in the title role. The Cuban actress, former partner of Ben Affleck, will receive on this occasion the New Hollywood Prize, which salutes “the passion and commitment of actors“.
Another highlight in sight: the first film of the actor of The Social Network (2010) Jesse Eisenberg: When You Finish Saving The World. But also the film by American actress Olivia Wilde: Don’t Worry Darling (closing) with Florence Pugh and pop superstar Harry Styles, who recently witnessed a tragic event. We will also have to count on James Gray and his Armageddon Timewhich divided critics at Cannes.
Finally, on the side of documentaries, note the presence ofHallelujah: the words of Leonard Cohenfocused on the life of the Canadian composer of Susanna. The festival will also welcome actress Thandiwe Newton to give her a Deauville Talent Awardwhile Lucy Boynton, discovered in Deauville with Sing Street, will receive the New Hollywood Award. An exceptional program for an event that promises to be just as exceptional!
