An unpublished novel by Gabriel García Márquez will be published in 2024 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of the Colombian writer, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, the publishing house Random House announced on Friday.
The new work by the author of “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and “Love in the Time of Cholera” will appear “in 2024 in all Spanish-speaking countries except Mexico” and “will undoubtedly be the event most important editorial of the coming year,” the publisher said in a statement.
Entitled “En agosto nos vemos”, which could be translated as “We will see each other in August”, this unpublished novel is the fruit of a “last effort” by the writer to “continue to write against winds and tides”, explain his sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo García Barcha, quoted in the press release.
We find there “the most remarkable aspects” of the work of García Márquez, such as “his imagination, the poetry of the language, the captivating narration, his understanding of human beings and his affection for their experiences and their misfortunes, especially in love, perhaps the main theme of all his work”, they underline.
Born on March 6, 1927 in the city of Aracataca, in northern Colombia, Gabriel García Márquez, journalist and writer, is the author of a long list of short stories and novels, such as “Chronicle of a death announced” and “Story of a castaway”.
According to the Cervantes Institute, he is the most translated Spanish-language writer since the beginning of the 21st century, ahead of the Chilean Isabel Allende, the Argentinian Jorge Luis Borges and the Peruvian Mario Vargas Llosa, also a Nobel Prize winner.
