On the 76th day of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the health situation is deteriorating in the Gaza Strip. In addition to the lack of food, there are problems with access to portable water.

They have so far survived the bombings, but live in tents amid rubbish and human waste. In the Gaza Strip, hundreds of thousands of people have no toilets, electricity or drinking water. A few tanks have been installed, but there is on average less than 2 liters per day per person for washing, cooking and drinking. This is ten times less than what UNICEF estimates is necessary to survive.

Critical situation in hospitals

“Our life is very hard. Some evenings we run out of water, and the children have to go to sleep thirsty”, testifies a man. Often an insoluble dilemma arises, between thirst and hunger. According to the UN, half the population, more than a million people, suffer from extreme or severe hunger.

In hospitals, the situation is also critical. In one of them, bodies are lined up on the ground. 80 patients are crowded into a church. According to the WHO, if nothing is done to evacuate them, they will all end up dying. According to Hamas, more than 20,000 people have already died in Gaza since the start of the conflict.
