In Catalonia (Spain), the drought is emptying the region’s water reservoirs. A church dating from the 11th century, hitherto submerged, even reappeared last summer. Never in 60 years has Catalonia experienced such a worrying situation. In recent months, weather services have recorded record temperatures. And the trend is not about to reverse. Water restrictions in several cities
The whole country is affected, but some regions are more so than others. This is precisely the case of Catalonia. The consequences are numerous and already visible on farms. Livestock are very affected by high heat. In a Catalan farm, fans and foggers have therefore been installed. “When the cows are hot, milk production drops sharply”, explains a veterinarian, Thursday, April 20. Water restrictions have already been imposed in several towns in the region. Drought is increasingly affecting European countries close to the Mediterranean.
