It’s already mid-season. The 17th day of Ligue 1 was played on Wednesday, December 20, during a multiplex with nine matches on the menu where all 18 clubs in the French championship played at the same time. At the end of this last Ligue 1 evening of the year, Brest stole the show from the big teams with the memorable performance of Kamory Doumbia, author of a quadruple against Lorient. At the same time, Kylian Mbappé added two goals to his tally for his 25th birthday, when OL took their heads out of the water.
Mbappé smiles again with PSG
Two goals that freed him. Kylian Mbappé contributed to PSG’s success against Metz (3-1) by scoring his 17th and 18 goals of the season (10 more than Wissam Ben Yedder, 2nd in the ranking) on his 25th birthday. He will not forget this evening during which he saw his little brother Ethan make his professional debut under the same colors (in addition to receiving the best player of the month award). Enough to let go of a first smile since Dortmund’s pout.
The spectacle offered on the ground will not go down in history. After a first period of sterile domination, Paris had to wait for Vitinha to break the deadlock, to then witness Mbappé’s double. And when it comes time to do the math, no good operation on Wednesday evening since Nice, its runner-up, also took three points thanks to a success over Lens (2-0). With a late double from Terem Moffi which also allowed the Aiglons to keep Monaco at bay. ASM also won, against Toulouse (2-1), with a double from former violet Wissam Ben Yedder.
A quadruplet from elsewhere for Brestois Kamory Doumbia
Brest no longer stops. SB29 crushed Lorient in the Breton derby on Wednesday evening (4-0), a victory acquired thanks to a completely crazy quadruplet from midfielder Kamory Doumbia, usual replacement. On a cloud in the first period, he found the net four times in just 26 minutes (22nd, 25th, 29th and 45th+3). Four completely different goals (a volley, a dive, a fox goal and the reward of a throw), all celebrated with a somersault.
The Malian, who had only scored five professional goals before this evening, is the first player to score four goals in the first half of an L1 match since Edinson Cavani in 2016. As a symbol of this Brest team which has everything succeeds and which moved to fourth place in the ranking, taking three points ahead of Lille, beaten in Strasbourg (2-1).
OL leaves the red zone
The other launch at the end of 2023 is that of OL. Third consecutive victory for Les Gones, this time against Nantes (1-0), which allows them to escape the red zone in which they had quickly become stuck. Wednesday evening, everything was not perfect. They finished outnumbered after the expulsion of Dejan Lovren, but the goal scored thanks to the Lacazette-Cherki tandem (the first scoring his seventh goal of the season) changed everything.
