An “unacceptable” situation at the CHSLD of Sainte-Adèle, according to Minister Sonia Bélanger

The Minister for Health and responsible for Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, considers “unacceptable” the situation of eight residents of the CHSLD of Sainte-Adèle who were installed in a multifunctional room, without a toilet.

The eight elders, who were in the hospital but no longer required acute care, were hastily transferred to the CHSLD in Sainte-Adèle about ten days ago. Since then, they have lived in a multifunctional room divided into two “rooms” of four. Not having access to a toilet, they had to resort to a commode.

“This situation is unacceptable, wrote Sonia Bélanger on the social network X (previously Twitter). In no case does this respect the directions we have given to establishments regarding the accommodation of our seniors. Intervention will be made so that residents can be accommodated humanely. »

The minister’s office specifies that the seniors will be moved to another location, which remains to be determined. “There will be discussions with the establishment today on this subject,” said the minister’s press secretary, Sarah Bigras.

At the end of the day on Friday, the CISSS des Laurentides indicated to Duty that this “accommodation environment” was temporary and that the eight seniors would reside there until they obtained a permanent place in a CHSLD. The establishment justified its decision to set up a unit in a multifunctional room by “high traffic” in hospitals in the region in recent weeks.

As of September 22, 14.11% of patients hospitalized in the Laurentians no longer required hospital care, according to online data from the Ministry of Health and Social Services. The ministerial target is 8%.
