An Outaouais union affiliated with the FAE accepts the agreement in principle

A third union affiliated with the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE) has accepted the agreement in principle reached during the holiday season with the government of Quebec concerning the renewal of collective agreements.

After midnight, on the night of Monday to Tuesday, members of the Outaouais Education Union voted 57% in favor of the agreement in principle, the union said in a message published on Facebook.

The union specified that it was after “several hours of discussions in the general assembly that more than 2,000 teachers” from the Coeur-des-Vallées, Draveurs and Portages-de-l’Outaouais school service centers voted in favor of the agreement at 57%.

The union added that it will not comment publicly on the content of the agreement in principle until local meetings of all unions affiliated with the FAE are held, “out of respect for all the teachers concerned by this negotiation.”

The Outaouais Education Union, which has 6,582 members, therefore becomes the third union to approve the agreement in principle concluded by the FAE. Last week, it was adopted by the Alliance of Teachers of Montreal, at 52%, and by the Syndicat de l’enseignement de la Pointe-de-l’Île, still in Montreal, at 58.5%. .

Only one union has so far refused the agreement, the Laval Region Education Union, which rejected it by 68%.

Five of the nine unions affiliated with the FAE and a majority of the 66,500 members must ratify the agreement in principle for it to be accepted.

The members of the Western Montreal Education Union will be the next to take a position on the agreement in principle, they who have been summoned to a general assembly which must take place on Tuesday.

Assemblies will be held on Wednesday at the Basses-Laurentides Teaching Union and Thursday at the Quebec Region Teaching Union.
