A fire broke out this Sunday afternoon in the small Saint Sépharin de Sarov church, an Orthodox church located rue Lecourbe, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. No victim is to be deplored but the damage is extremely important, reports France Bleu Paris this Sunday. The fire is under control.
The Paris fire brigade was alerted around 4:20 p.m. About sixty were still mobilized around 6 p.m. to put out the flames. The fire quickly spread because the 250 square meter building is entirely made of wood, explains the firefighters to France Bleu Paris. No service was in progress in this Orthodox church when the fire started. Three people were able to leave the scene before firefighters arrived. However, the damage is considerable. Everything burned inside this little church. Four or five paintings could be taken out but they are very degraded, according to the firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. The laboratory of the Paris Police Prefecture is expected on site.
