An 88-year-old Laval resident died on the night of Monday to Tuesday, after being found “in critical condition” outside his private seniors’ residence, Les Jardins de Renoir, located in the Chomedey district.
“During the night, his wife woke up and noticed that he was no longer next to her in the bed”, which triggered searches inside and outside the residence, said Sergeant Geneviève Major, of the Laval Police Department. He went to bed around 10 p.m.
Police were called to the scene at 3 a.m. after the man was located. “There was a rapid transport which was made in a hospital center, where unfortunately his death was noted”, explained the sergeant.
She added that “it is not yet known why he died, if it was unwell, hypothermia, why he came out. These are all questions that are currently unanswered ”.
This is why “a team of investigators went to the scene this morning with agents from the forensic identity service, to try to understand the causes and circumstances of the death”.
The installation belongs to the Cogir Residences company. “We are working with the authorities and we offer all our sympathies to the family,” said Brigitte Pouliot, spokesperson for the company.
As it is housing for independent people, the entries and exits are not controlled and a resident “can come back at any time of the night”, she specified.
On the Cogir Residences website, however, we can read that Les Jardins de Renoir offer a “24-hour security” service and have surveillance cameras.
