An investigation was opened after a report from Licra denouncing publications of a racist nature targeting Franco-Malian singer Aya Nakamura, the prosecution reported on Friday March 15. The 28-year-old singer, crowned female artist at the Victoires de la Musique 2024, is targeted by the far right and has been the subject of numerous racist attacks since the mention at the end of February by the weekly The Expressof her possible participation in the evening of July 26 to launch the Olympic Games, during which she could perform songs by Edith Piaf.

A peak was reached on the weekend of March 9 and 10. Boos arose at the mention of the artist’s name on Sunday, during the first campaign meeting for the European elections of Reconquête, Eric Zemmour’s far-right party. In addition, a small ultra-right group, Les Natifs, posted on its social networks on Saturday the photo of a banner hung by around ten of its members on the banks of the Seine. “There’s no way Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market!”we can read there.

The megastar, on the other hand, has since garnered numerous supports, including that of the director Thomas Jolly, in charge of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, who said on his networks “deeply shocked by the racism suffered by Aya Nakamura”. Without confirming the singer’s participation, he promises that “the ceremonies will speak out against all forms of discrimination. France, through a mosaic of talents, will celebrate the beauty and richness of its diversity.”
