After the incidents on Sunday, which led to the cancellation of the match between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais at the Vélodrome stadium, the public prosecutor of Marseille announced, Monday October 30, the opening of two investigations .

One concerns reports of “racist behavior” from Lyon supporters to Marseille fans before the match, declared Nicolas Bessone during a press conference. “Some of the Lyon supporters made a certain number of Nazi salutes and monkey cries aimed at the Marseille supporters”, recalled the prosecutor. The authors may be heard as part of an investigation for “provoking racial hatred and racial insults”.

Seven people in police custody

An investigation into “premeditated willful violence in a meeting” was also opened after the stone-throwing of the Olympique Lyonnais bus, facts which caused “a serious injury” to Lyon coach Fabio Grosso, underlined the Marseille prosecutor. This attack, for which the coach was granted total incapacity for work (ITT) of 30 days, is punishable by ten years of imprisonment. “No person has been arrested in connection with this attack, but investigations are continuing,” added Nicolas Bessone.

In total, seven people are still in police custody and Olympique Lyonnais has not yet filed a complaint but “hears” do so, noted the Marseille prosecutor. The only complaint filed comes from the Professional Football League.
