The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) opened an investigation in February into the creation of the commercial company of the Professional Football League (LFP), a judicial source told franceinfo this Thursday, confirming information from The Team.

This preliminary investigation, opened in February, notably for “embezzlement of public funds”, has not yet been entrusted to any investigative service, according to this source. It concerns the creation of the LFP commercial company after a partial transfer of capital to the Luxembourg investment fund CVC Capital Partners.

The agreement concluded in April 2022 by the LFP with CVC brought 1.5 billion euros to French professional football, compared to 13.04% of its lifetime income for the investment fund. The distribution between clubs of the windfall resulting from this agreement is contested in court in a separate procedure by the Le Havre club, which considers itself cheated.
