An investigation into “meeting violence” was opened on Thursday June 20 after the attack in the morning on a Saint-Étienne market of the National Rally (RN) candidate Hervé Breuil, in the second constituency of the Loire, indicated the prosecution from Saint-Étienne to France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire.
The events occurred around 11:30 a.m. in a market near the Labor Exchange where “a shove, insults and splashes of water and flour” occurred, said the prosecution, adding that the investigation was opened by the police. Wearing a pacemaker, Mr. Breuil explained to AFP that he was taken to the emergency room of the CHU where he underwent examinations. In the meantime, the RN campaign in this second Loire constituency is on pause, according to the party.
The candidate of the New Popular Front in this constituency, Andrée Taurinya, deplored to France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire “physical violence in politics”.
“We can have debates, but it’s ideas against ideas, we will never attack a candidate.”
