Singer Aya Nakamura has suffered racist attacks since she was approached to sing at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. Justice has opened an investigation for racism.

A banner with evocative words: “There’s no way Aya, this is Paris, it’s not the Bamako market.” The photo was posted on social media by the identity group The Natives, alongside other hate messages posted online. For more than a week, singer Aya Nakamura has been the victim of racist attacks. The public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation after Licra’s report. “When we oppose France to Bamako, when we oppose French elegance to vulgarity, these remarks seem to us to characterize offenses”explains a member of the organization.

Support from the Olympic Organizing Committee

The controversy dishonors France, according to the president of SOS Racisme, Dominique Sopo. “It might be time for us to collectively pull ourselves together,” he believes, inviting “break up with [la] dynamics of hatred. Aya Nakamura received support from the Olympic Organizing Committee and many artists, including singer Patrick Bruel.
