An investigation was opened on Monday March 14 for “destruction by explosive device in an organized gang” after the explosion on Sunday evening of the front of a post office in Bastia during the demonstration in support of Yvan Colonna, learned franceinfo from the Bastia prosecutor’s office. The investigation was handed over to the federal police.
During this demonstration this Sunday in Bastia, numerous clashes took place between demonstrators and the police, lasting several hours. In front of the Post Office, a “explosive device” blew through the front of the building, which shattered the windows and damaged part of the premises. Protesters also managed to enter the public finance building and start a fire there that damaged two floors.
The demonstration gathered 7,000 people according to the prefecture. 300 hooded individuals threw molotov cocktails, cobblestones or agricultural bombs towards the building, the police or the community of Corsica. 67 people were injured, including 44 on the side of the police.
