Justice has just opened an investigation to find out in what circumstances a two-day-old infant died Wednesday evening at the private hospital in Antony (Hauts-de-Seine), two minutes after receiving an antibiotic injection, a learned franceinfo this Friday from the Nanterre prosecutor’s office. The prosecution told franceinfo that it had opened an investigation into the causes of death. An autopsy was carried out by the forensic institute of Garches, specialized in the matter.

This Wednesday, shortly after 8 p.m., a two-day-old baby boy suffered from an infection. A doctor then decided to administer medication to him by injecting him with an antibiotic, franceinfo learned from a source familiar with the matter. But about two minutes after the injection, the child died, the source said. The next morning, the police intervened in the hospital and seized the equipment used for the injection.

Investigators must now understand what happened for the baby to die so suddenly, just two minutes after being injected with an antibiotic. The police will try to find out if the dose of antibiotic was too strong, if the doctor inadvertently used a product other than the one he wanted to administer to the child, or if the latter suffered from a particular pathology. Finally, the police will check if it is a voluntary gesture of this doctor. To try to find out, the Antony police station is seized of the investigation. To our knowledge, the parents have not yet filed a complaint.
