Two men aged 65 and 69 died this Saturday in the crash of their ULM in the town of Noron-l’Abbayenear Falaise, in the south of Calvados, announces this Saturday evening, September 4, the prefecture of the department.
Leaving Caen around 7 a.m. Friday morning, the device was going to the world exhibition of the ULM in Blois. “The alert was given around 10:15 a.m. by the pilot of a second ULM, having also taken off from Caen a few minutes apart and who was worried about not seeing the other aircraft on his arrival in Blois”specifies the prefecture.
A crash a few minutes after takeoff
The aircraft, of the multi-axis ULM type, probably crashed a few minutes after takeoff because the transponder, which makes it possible to follow the course of the ULM, stopped transmitting ten minutes later. The Dragon 50 helicopter was hired to track down the aircraft by flying over the area, but without success. The search therefore continued on the ground with the means of the gendarmerie according to the last position noted.
The ULM and the two bodies were finally discovered around 12:30 p.m.. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the accident. Investigators from the BGTA (air transport gendarmerie brigade) of Brest and the BEA (civil aviation safety investigation and analysis office) went to the accident site.
