An investigation is opened by the Lyon public prosecutor’s office after the discovery on Wednesday November 15 of the tag “Islam is anti-Semitic” on a mosque in the city, franceinfo learned Thursday from the public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the newspaper Le Figaro. The inscription was made on the wall of a mosque in the Croix Rousse district of Lyon, specifies the prosecution.

The investigation is open for “degradation or deterioration of the property of others committed because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”. It was entrusted to the Rhône Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP).

This Thursday on X, Gérald Darmanin reacted. The Minister of the Interior writes: “Two mosques, in Lyon and Pessac, have suffered unacceptable damage in recent days. I provide all my support to the faithful. Investigations are underway to arrest the perpetrators and bring them before the courts: no impunity for the bearers of hatred against our Muslim compatriots.”

On the night of November 5, the Pessac mosque (Gironde) was the target of Islamophobic tags. The president of the association which manages this place of worship, Abdourahmane Ridouane, denounced “abject death threat from the fascist against the faithful of the Pessac mosque”by posting a photo of a tag on Facebook – “your coffins or your suitcases” – listed on the site’s gates.
